The Contentsquare 2024 Hackathon

Started in 2017, the Hackathon is a much anticipated CSQ event that takes place each year. Innovation is in Contentsquare’s DNA. Every year the hackathon is a powerful accelerator to build the future and move our company forward. Employees across different teams, departments, and even countries collaborate to create memorable projects. This year, we encouraged participants to embrace our new company value, Be daring. We had 20 fantastic projects this year, focused on different aspects of the product, for internal or external use, or even new ways of working. 

Each year, the Hackathon also has a specific theme. This year’s theme was Future-proofing Contentsquare: Innovate for the Future of Digital Experience. The prompts provided to participants challenged them to come up with visionary ideas. Centered around tech, processes, or customer connections, those ideas should help shape the next 3 to 5 years of Contentsquare. After 3 days (and nights) of innovation and teamwork by over 150 CSQuad members, our top 10 teams were ready to showcase their projects and compete for the grand prize. 

The Hackathon Finale event is the reveal of all the creativity and dedication these finalists put into their projects. It’s transmitted live so that the whole CSQuad can witness their colleagues' creations! A perfect opportunity to support and celebrate our colleagues' innovations. Each team presented their project in a 5-minute pitch, followed by a brief Q&A with the judges. This gave them a unique opportunity to bring their creativity and bold ideas to light. In the end, the jury awarded the top five projects that best empower our customers to achieve their goals, with a specific focus on efficiency. Some of the winning teams chose to innovate A/B testing, others AI assistants, and some the way we receive feedback from customers. Previous Hackathon editions led to functional prototypes which are now a part of the CSQ product, such as enhancement of the customer journey analysis and anomaly detection.

We’ve asked participants for their feedback on this year’s Hackathon, the most exciting part, and how different it was from their day-to-day job. Here’s what they had to say:

Jeanne, Senior Project Manager and project contributor during Hackathon 2024: 

“The most exciting part was thinking outside the box without limit and moderation. Also, working during 3 days almost day & night with CSQ people we’ve potentially never worked with before, who are from all around the world and have many different skillsets. [...] As I mentioned, during the Hackathon everything is possible. It allows us to take a step back from our original scope, extending all possibilities.”

Thais, Workplace Community Specialist, organizer of the Hackathon 2024:

“I really enjoyed being part of something that adds value to the company itself. My role focuses on creating a positive work environment for employees, which helps those working directly in this way so we can offer clients a good and efficient product. However, I’ve never worked directly with the product itself. This is why seeing how enthusiastic and passionate employees are about it made me feel part of something bigger, plus interacting with other teams was also a great learning experience…Participating in the jury meetings and hearing from senior leaders about how they make decisions was incredibly inspiring.”

“Hackathon in my opinion is designed to help people that do not know each other come together on a topic that they hold dear within the company. For me, it was the opportunity to propose a solution to a recurring problem I face within the company and that I know may bring value to other people.

While choosing the right way to address a problem with people you have just met can be quite challenging, I learned a lot through them; and I am proud of myself to have tried a new experience!”
