What your Net Promoter Score® means for your business

Want to know how customers really feel about your product or brand? Your Net Promoter Score (NPS) lets their loyalty do the talking.

Net Promoter Score is a metric used to understand customer sentiment and predict business growth. It’s all based on one simple survey question: "How likely are you to recommend this product/company to a friend or colleague?"

The answers provide instant insights into customer satisfaction, helping you identify trends in real time.

How do NPS surveys work?

An NPS survey asks customers to give a numeric answer between 0 and 10—with 0 being 'not at all likely' and 10 being 'extremely likely'. With help from our free NPS calculator, you can determine your score and see where you stand with your customers.

Put a number on customer loyalty

The NPS framework groups respondents into 3 different categories:

1. Promoters

Anyone who gives a score of 9 or 10 in your NPS survey. These are your happy customers, loyal fans, and potential advocates. Ask them to leave reviews or testimonials, encourage them to share their experience on social media, or target them with special offers to thank them for their loyalty.

2. Detractors

Anybody who gives a score of 0 to 6 in your NPS survey. These are dissatisfied customers who are unlikely to recommend your brand or product to others. They could be at risk of churning or not buying again. Plus, they may even turn other potential customers off via negative reviews or word of mouth.

3. Passives

Anybody who gives a score of 7 or 8 to your NPS question. These people are not actively recommending or criticizing your brand, so they’re considered neutral. You’ll notice passives aren’t included in the Net Promoter Score calculation, but keep an eye on this cohort: it might be easier than you think to turn them into promoters.

You can calculate your NPS by subtracting the percentage of your detractors from the percentage of your promoters,
or by using a free NPS calculator like the one above. Give it a go!
