For the next leg of our Pride Month blog series, we sat down with our LGBTQIA+ employees to understand why inclusion in the workplace is so important, and what it personally means to them.

The importance of allies

“You don’t get to choose who you love and how you feel, so why is it okay for anyone to treat someone differently based on how they identify?

The LGBTQIA+ community is still so underrepresented in the workplace because there is still a fear of discrimination and prejudice, or even being seen as unprofessional.

When allies create comfortable spaces, it’s a happier and healthier place for everyone.”

Tara, Customer Success Manager, London

Feeling valued

LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace is important to me because it shows that the company I work for supports and celebrates your diversity.

Every employee wants to feel like they’re valued not just professionally, but personally too.

Hannah, Events Marketing Manager, London

Freedom to be authentic

“I’m a big believer in bringing your authentic self to work. Queer or straight, we all feel some innate pressure to perform a “professional” version of ourselves at the office.

Even at companies where outward homophobia is not tolerated, many queer people still end up playing a more sanitized, gender-conforming version of themselves. It’s draining, it’s unsustainable, and it’s boring!

Inclusive companies are more interesting, honest places.

Nick, Global Director, Digital Marketing, New York

A safe environment

“To be able to do your job properly and enjoy coming to work every day, you need to be in a safe environment where you are free to be yourself.

I have experienced the opposite too often to know the negative impact it can have on your life.”

Maxime, Solution Expert – Team Lead, Munich

Equal rights and respect

“At this point, it’s not an option to be inclusive anymore. We’ve been silenced and put aside for so many decades, treated like a trend, a threat, a disease.

Now it’s the time for payback and we demand equal rights and equal opportunities. We are beautiful, creative, smart, and talented people that deserve the same respect and consideration.”

Yoann, UX/UI Intern, Paris

Diversity

“LGBTQIA+ inclusion is important to me because I highly value diversity in all areas of my life.

I’d like for LGBTQIA+ individuals to thrive in the workplace and feel like there’s nothing wrong with being the way they are, and that they can feel safe here.”

Ornella, Global Traffic Coordinator, Paris

Mental wellbeing

“It allows people to work in a safe place. It’s a basic need and a basic right, but I can guarantee that it is not always respected.

Without inclusion, you cannot be yourself and feel secure, and this has a huge psychological cost for an LGBTQIA+ person.”

Marie-Anne, Lead Customer Success Manager, Paris
